Kitchen Fire Safety Tips and Prevention

Everyday the number one cause of a house fire if from cooking.  Unfortunately, fires caused by cooking can be the most smelly and difficult to mitigate.  Preventing kitchen fires are easy and could save a lot of heartache.  Bellow are a few easy tips to prevent kitchen fires:

  1. Do not leave the stove area while cooking.
  2. Watch what you wear.
  3. Do not have dish clothes or fabric over the cooking area.
  4. Do not keep grease on the stove where it can get hot, and do not hot grease down in the trash or down the sink.
  5. Keep a working fire extinguisher near the stove. (Remember to check extinguishers yearly)
  6. Install and check semi-yearly fire detectors.
